OUR STORY

The Builders

Isabelle and Oliver met on a kayaking expedition course in Chilean Patagonia Spring 2020. Post-covid and their respective educational journey’s out East they both landed back in Oliver’s hometown of Whitefish, Montana. Isabelle, born and raised in Idaho, fell in love with the Flathead Valley and they have since found their home together in Columbia Falls. Both avid outdoors people with a deep appreciation of mindful practices and a respect for the power of the human body, sauna felt like a natural fit into their lives. With Isabelle’s entrepreneurial spirit and Oliver’s construction background the idea began to take shape. Both have roots in Nordic culture and the venture felt like an opportunity to reconnect with their respective heritages while bringing the joy of sauna to the community they love so much. With a completion of the project estimated for Fall of 2024 the greater community will be able to book nights with Teakettle Saunas soon.

The Sauna

The sauna itself is being constructed atop a 16 foot trailer designed specifically for tiny house construction. There will be a cool down room with storage, lighting, a bartop, and bench to encourage the natural rotation through the spaces. The hot room is heated by a top of the line IKI wood stove, imported from Finland. The benches are made of a high quality clear cedar. Layout/height of benches is a very important element to Finnish sauna culture and this is reflected in the construction of the space. Included in a nightly rental of the sauna are two cold plunge tubs which bring the whole experience full circle. Large windows in both rooms allow sauna bathers to appreciate their natural surroundings, whether it be mountains, lakes, rivers, or your own backyard.
